When you are planning to perform Hajj or either Umrah you should follow the guidance of our Holy Prophet (PBUH). Every Hajj and Umrah pilgrim after booking Ramadan Umrah packages need to assume ihram before crossing the miqat points. There are total of five miqat points out of which four are mentioned in the following hadith narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA):
“Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) had fixed Dhul Hulayfah as the Miqat for the people of Madinah; al-Juhfah for the people of Sham; and Qarn al-Manazil for the people of Najd; and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. So, these (above mentioned) are the Mawaqit for all those living in those places, and besides them for those who come through those places with the intention of performing Hajj and Umrah and whoever lives within these places should assume Ihram from his dwelling place, and similarly the people of Makkah can assume Ihram from Makkah.” (Sahih al-Bukhari) The fifth miqat point ‘Dhat Irq’ was added by the second great caliph of Islam when he achieved the victory on towns of Basra and Kufa. The list of Miqat points are as following:
Dhul Hulayfah It is located at about 18 Km away from Masjid al-Nabawi on the southwest side. The distance from the north of Makkah is 410 Km approximately. This point is also known as ‘Abyar Ali’. This point is specified for the residents of Madinah or the people arriving from Madinah. Al-Juhfah It is also known as Rabigh because of the town located at north of the point. The point is located at 113 miles on the northwest side of Makkah. This is the suitable miqat point for the pilgrims coming from Europe, Turkey, North America, Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria and many other African countries. Qarn al-Manazil This miqat point is located at about 80 Kilometers on the east side of Makkah. This miqat points suits best for the pilgrims arriving from Najd. It is also suitable for pilgrims arriving from U.A.E, Oman, Pakistan, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore etc. It is located near the city of Makkah named as ‘Taif’. Yalamlam This miqat point is also known as ‘Al-Sadiah’. It is located on the south side of Makkah at an approximate distance of 62 miles (100 Kilometers). It is the most suitable miqat point for the people of Yemen and the pilgrims arriving from the southern side of Makkah. Pilgrims from countries like South Africa, Nigeria etc. will assume ihram at this miqat point. Dhat Irq This miqat point is located on the northeast side of Makkah at a distance of 90 Kilometers. Most pilgrims from Iraq, Iran, China, Russia etc. use this miqat point for assuming Ihram. Hil Hil is the area between the boundary of a Miqat point and the boundary of the Haram. Pilgrim residing in the boundary of the hill or have an intention to perform Umrah while in the boundary of the hill he/she must take the ihram before crossing the boundary of haram. Every pilgrim must assume ihram before crossing any of the miqat points or before crossing the boundary of Haram. Pilgrims from Madinah can enter in the state of ihram at Madinah hotel or can go to any Miqat point and then assume the state of ihram. If you are travelling with an approved Umrah agent you will be landed at Jeddah airport and you can go to a miqat point for assuming ihram.

Even some people don’t go to learn about Hajj after booking Hajj packages.
Most people don't know about its types and which one is necessary or which one is not? Here I will mention all of its types and will tell you which one is essential during Umrah performance. Next time when you travel for Umrah, you will not mess up in its types. Types of Tawaf There are a total of eight types of tawaf that are either performed in Hajj or Umrah: 1. Tawaf Qudoom: this tawaf is performed by the persons who are not the residents of Makkah city. Any of them when arriving to the holy Kaaba perform this tawaf. 2. Tawaf Ziyaraat: this tawaf is also known as tawaf al-Ifadah or tawaf al-Hajj. This tawaf is performed by all the pilgrims who are performing Hajj. If one didn't perform this tawaf, his Hajj would not be valid. 3. Tawaf Sadr: this tawaf is specified for the residents of Makkah. This tawaf is performed when someone arrives back to its residence. 4. Tawaf Nazr: this tawaf becomes compulsory for someone if he commits that he/she will do tawaf if Allah Almighty will fulfil a specific desire. It is not part of both Hajj and Umrah. 5. Tawaf Umrah: this tawaf is a part of Umrah. It is obligatory for Umrah completion. Without this tawaf, Umrah will not be valid. 6. Tawaf Nafl: as the name reveals, this tawaf is optional, and it carry great rewards if performed. You will not have to pay any penalty if it is not done in Umrah or Hajj. 7. Tawaf Tahiyaah: this tawaf is done when a pilgrim enters into the Haram. 8. Tawaf al-Wada: it is also known as farewell tawaf. This is done before leaving the sacred city of Makkah. Above mentioned tawaf belong from different categories described in Islamic schooling. Some are optional, some are mustahab, and some are sunnah and so on. Let's have a categorized look. Non-mandatory tawafs: Tawaf Nafl Mustahab (recommended) tawafs: Tawaf Tahiyaah is recommended on entry into the haram. Sunnah tawafs: Tawaf Qudoom is the sunnah for Aafaaqi (residents outside of Makkah). Not sunnah for those whoe are performing tamuttu or Umrah even one is Aafaaqi. Wajib tawafs: Tawaf al-Wada and Tawaf Sadr are wajib tawafs. It means if you don’t do this you have to pay a penalty. Fardh (compulsory) tawafs: Tawaf Nazr, Tawaf Ziyaraat (Tawaf al-Hajj) and Tawaf Umrah. Tawaf in Umrah From the above eight mentioned types of tawaf, in Umrah performance, you have only to perform Tawaf Umrah that is compulsory. At leaving Makkah only Tawafal-Wada is recommended, it means if you don’t do this farewell tawaf you have to pay the penalty (sacrifice of an animal at returning from Umrah). It doesn’t matter whether you book Ramadan Umrah packages or perform Umrah in Easter. Umrah procedure will remain same throughout the year. |
